Hi Alex,

Because it turned out to be the only way to sort out a deal. While XL and
AMIthlon could complement each other to some extent, if sold separately they
would be rivals. As H&P were not prepared to have a rival to their XL backed
by Amiga Inc and published by someone else, and the AMIthlon authors were
not going to allow H&P exclusive publishing rights if the products were
marketed separately, this is the solution. The alternative would have been
disastrous for the future of both products.

As for the ROM and OS, it is a slightly different but no less compelling
argument. Why would Amiga Inc even remotely consider licensing or backing
either product if they make no money out of them? If Amiga Inc had no
financial interest in the products, I'd not have been surprised if they
hadn't led the anti-x86 witch-hunt themselves instead of Hyperion.

The same goes for P96. Why would they bother supporting a commercial
product if they get no revenue out of it?

Well, the emulator (AMIthlon) is best used with 3.9 anyway, but that is
irrelevant. I hear what you're saying and I understand your position as I
have 5 Amigas myself, plus one copy of 3.5 and 3.9 each, but you're looking
at it in the wrong way. What you are saying is that the price is too high
considering there's a lot of bundled stuff in there you don't need to buy
again, instead of considering whether the package is good value to you as a
whole. The people that I've shown this to have said they'd be prepared to
pay even more, with or without ROM and OS. I have the test versions and
might even get a final copy for free as a thank-you for my testing work, but
I'm still going to BUY a copy, even so. That's how highly I rate this
software. It's still hundreds of pounds cheaper than buying an AmigaOne
setup, and probably at least a thousand pounds cheaper than a bPlan system.

You are free to download and compile the UAE-JIT source under QNX too, and
then you won't need to pay anything to anybody. The bottom line is this:
either the whole lot sells in a bundle (which is less bloated than some
might have liked anyway) or it doesn't get published at all, and then where
would we be?
